League Of Women Voters Of Hays County Holds Forum For Primary Runoff Candidates

The League of Women Voters of Hays County will hold a Forum for the candidates in the Democratic and Republican Primary Runoff.  The Forum will be Monday, May 7, at 6:00 p.m., at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins Street.

Candidates in the Primary Runoff invited to speak are the following; 

• U.S. Representative District 21; Democrats, Mary Street Wilson & Joseph Kopser

• U.S. Representative District 21; Republicans, Chip Roy and Matt McCall

• U.S. Representative District 25; Democrats, Chris Perri and Julie Oliver

• Justice 3^rd Court of Appeals Place 6; Republicans, Donna Davidson and Michael “Mike” Toth

• State Representative District 45; Democrats, Rebecca Bell-Metereau and Erin Zwiener

• Justice of the Peace Precinct 4, Republicans; Robert Avera and John Burns

Due to the large number of candidates for these races, candidates will not debate but will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and outline their qualifications for the office they seek. They will also be able to meet and greet citizens and distribute campaign literature.

Citizens are encouraged to use the non-partisan online guide to voting, Vote 411.org for information on the candidates and to read their responses to questions. Upon entering a home address, a citizen can view and compare the candidates who will be on their voting ballot.

Jeannie Lewis, Debate Coordinator, encourages all concerned citizens to attend the Forum to be informed of issues important to the San Marcos community and the Forum moderator will be Brenda Smith.

The League believes in the representative form of government and individual liberties established in the Constitution of the United States. 

A guiding principle of the League is that  “government depends upon the informed and active participation of its citizens and requires that governmental bodies protect the citizen’s right to know by giving adequate notice of proposed actions, holding open meetings and making public records accessible.”

In-person early voting begins May 14 and ends May 18.  Election date for the Primary Runoff is Tuesday, May 22.
