League Of Women Voters Of Hays County Sponsors Debate For San Marcos City Council Candidates

Previously known as San Marcos League of Women Voters, the League is a non-partisan organization open to both women and men dedicated to voter awareness and education.

Candidates for the upcoming City Council Election will be featured in a public debate sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Hays County.  The debate will be Monday, Oct. 9, at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins Street, Monday, at 6:30 p.m.

Candidates for the City Council are Place 3 Ed Mihalkanin and Amy Stanfield.  Place 4 candidates are Jane Hughson and Joshua Simpson.

Jeannie Lewis, Debate Coordinator, encourages all concerned citizens to attend the debate to be informed of issues important to the San Marcos community. Debate moderator is Kaylene Ray.

Candidates have received questionnaires prepared by the League of Women Voters. Their responses will be published in the Voters Guide, which will be available to the public and through the local news media.

The League believes in the representative form of government and individual liberties established in the Constitution of the United States.  A guiding principle of the League is that  “government depends upon the informed and active participation of its citizens and requires that governmental bodies protect the citizen’s right to know by giving adequate notice of proposed actions, holding open meetings and making public records accessible.”

The last day to register to vote is Tuesday, October 10.  Early voting is Monday, October 23 through Friday, November 3.  Election date is Tuesday, November 7.
