League Of Women Voters To Host School Board Candidates And Bond Proposals Reception

The League of Women Voters of Hays County will sponsor an important meeting for citizens to prepare for the upcoming San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees election and also for the proposed San Marcos City Bond Election and the SMCISD Bond Election.

The Meet and Greet Reception will be Monday, April 10, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 East Hopkins Street, and refreshments will be served.

SMCISD school board candidates will be given the opportunity to meet and talk with citizens of their districts.

District 1 candidates are Juan Miguel Arredondo and Brian K. Henderson.

District 2 candidates are Elizabeth Trevino and Margie T. Villalpando.

District 3 candidates are Lupe Costilla and Mariana Zamora.

Candidates will make brief presentations of their background and plans for the district.  Time will be allowed for citizens to meet with the candidates of their specific voting district to ask further questions.

Spokespersons for the City and for SMCISD will give informational presentations on the bond proposals.  There will be a question and answer session following each presentation.

Early voting for the school board and the bonds begins April 24 and ends May 2 with the Election scheduled for May 6.

The meeting is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Hays County which is nonpartisan for any particular candidate or party.  The League promotes voter awareness, education, and participation in the voting process.
