LineUp Announced For Mermaid Week Festival In San Marcos

San Marcos TX — In an effort to highlight the city’s heritage, focus on river stewardship and proclivity for the arts, The Mermaid Society of San Marcos TX has created Mermaid Week SMTX using the symbol of the mermaid.

The mermaid is a unique to San Marcos and the river having been a focus of the Aquarena roadside attraction in San Marcos and its underwater dioramas and theatricals.

Fast forward to 2016 and the mermaid symbol has been recast as a community connector and river protector.

Throughout the Mermaid Festival Week, events and happenings are geared to bringing together all of San Marcos, and educating the community about their part in the sustainability in this cities unique waterway and future; the course for that future being set now.

Along with many family-oriented events during the week, there will be a celebration of Aquarena Springs’ Aquamaids of the past who entertained thousands of visitors each year with their underwater performances. Some of the other highlights are listed here:

  • September 10 – Kickoff with MERtini Shakedown Contest / sponsor Dripping Springs Vodka
