There once was a cherubic little princess named Carolina Augusta. She bounced into a world overflowing with responsiveness. As the first born heir to the kingdom Carolina knew only joyous hugs, red toenail polished puppies, Barbie doll cakes, sun drenched days, adventurous games of hide ‘n’ go seek, pig tails and sundresses.

As Princess Carolina matured, a barely perceptible shift began to occur. The sunny, carefree days of childhood became just a tad muddy, but not so much as to upset the princess’ innocent disposition. The days were filled with Holly Hobbie themed birthday parties, campfire s’mores, beach excursions, bike rides and slumber parties.

When questioned about her easy button, Carolina has no recollection of possessing such a device, but surely there must’ve been one? How else could she explain all the blissful memories?

The only difficult times she recalls, if one could even classify them as such, was the year bitter tasting red roses adorned her birthday cake, and that silly hoop skirt that jumped up and hit her nose whenever she tried to sit down.

Some years there were fancy Easter dresses with matching bonnets, adorable purses, lacey socks and shiny new shoes.

There were 4-H ribbons and even a few trophies, trips to Walt Disney World, family excursions, ice-skating, water skiing, summer camps, and Saturday morning breakfasts complete with crispy bacon and homemade waffles and syrup.

Should anyone ever be put on trial for stealing Carolina’s easy button, it is the Easter Bunny. For all of her young life, he deposited not only colored eggs and candy, but also lovely trinkets in her pastel colored basket. Oh, how Carolina loved trinkets, and truth be told, although she is many years grown now, she still loves trinkets.

One sad year however, Carolina skipped excitedly towards her basket only to find that Mr. Bunny had left no trinkets, only eggs and candy. Carolina was shocked. Devastated. In her fair heart, this omission was tantamount to treason! The cause for the circumstances that left her trinket-less remains a mystery.

The lost trinkets became her downfall. From there hardship launched. If ever an easy button existed, it was long gone, replaced by an out of state move her junior year of high school, prom date drama, curly hair woes, best friend squabbles, all of which became the gateway drugs to adult hardships.

Today as Carolina continues to struggle with adapting to life in a new town and all that entails, she often curses the @&*! bunny who stole her easy button!

There are days when she allows the overwhelming circumstances to reign supreme, reducing her to a blubbering mess. She longs for an easy button and has heard rumors they may be available for purchase via Amazon prime. One can hope!

Should anyone find her lost easy button, do not not pass go, do not collect $200, but please ship immediately to Princess Carolina Augustine, Some Days Are Hard, USA.

Until Next Time,
