Local Chef Shares Award With Two Local Nonprofits

San Marcos — Wild American Shrimp®, the American Shrimp Processors Association (ASPA)’s marketing program for wild-caught Gulf and South Atlantic Shrimp, has named Chef Monte Sheffield, Chef/Owner of Palmer’s Restaurant Bar & Courtyard in San Marcos, Texas, as its 2020 Chef of the Year.

Chef Sheffield will reign for the next year as the association’s “Admiral of Advocacy.”

Chef Monte Sheffield and his family have owned Palmer’s Restaurant since 2010, and have made it an upscale dining destination for date nights, office dinner parties, and casual meals.

Their gorgeous courtyard is a must-try on any beautiful day. Cocktails and seafood dishes, especially the wild-caught Gulf shrimp prepared by Chef Sheffield, are aplenty when you visit this iconic San Marcos restaurant.

Chef Sheffield is no stranger to giving back to his community and has partnered with the food bank for years.

They have been a part of the local Restaurant Weeks where diners can purchase items from a select menu that will benefit the local food bank.

After the pandemic hit, they participated in the Kyle Chamber of Commerce ‘Food 4 One and All’ where for every 4 meals purchased, a meal would be given to someone in need.

Palmer’s also created quarantine kits, loaded with 30-40 pounds of fresh meat, dairy, and produce that people could purchase or in the case of one anonymous donor, purchase and donate to the food bank. Hays County Food Bank was gifted by this donor with 5 of these loaded kits this spring.

Chef Sheffield received a commemorative award plate and Wild American Shrimp made a $500 donation to the charity of Chef Sheffield’s choice.

He generously chose 2 great options in San Marcos: Hays County Food Bank and Own Your Own Universe, a nonprofit run by local legend Terri Hendrix.

Hays County Food Bank is proud to be a part of Chef Sheffield’s philanthropic story and are honored to be one of his charities of choice.
