Local Church Is A Hero In ‘Lend A Hand’ Campaign Against Hunger

This summer, Hays County Food Bank’s shelves were less stocked with food and donations were not as ample. The food bank ran its annual summer campaign called ‘Lend A Hand’. Community groups, churches, companies, families, and individuals all worked together to help fill the food bank’s shelves. The largest donation to the campaign came from First Christian Church of San Marcos.

First Christian Church is a regular supporter of Hays County Food Bank, but they wanted to take extra action this summer. The fact that 72% of San Marcos CISD children qualify for free or reduced lunch and may not get three meals a day when school is out was a motivating factor. The congregation banded together and made July “Food Bank Month”. They collected over 150 pounds of food and $1,309 to support the campaign.

Deacon Carl Adkins led the effort, but the entire church participated. Deacon Roy Enright delivered the donation in several trips. First Christian Church is proud of their efforts – they believe in the important ministry of the food bank and are proud to support its service to our community.

In 2015, The Hays County Food Bank and its 20₊ partner agencies distributed 690,397 pounds of food to an average of nearly 12,000 food, insecure residents, a month.
