Local Company Donates $1,000 To The 14th Annual Groundwater To The Gulf Summer Institute

Buda, Texas — As part of its continued support of environmental education efforts, Texas Lehigh Cement Company has donated $1,000 to support the 14th annual Groundwater to the Gulf Summer Institute.

“As a member of this community, we are intent on maximizing the societal benefits of the products we make by promoting environmental stewardship and education locally,” said Neil Hodgson, President of Texas Lehigh Cement.

The three-day professional development course focuses on providing educators with best practices and resources to teach environmental sciences in the classroom. From its origins in Central Texas, educators follow the path of the water to its final destination in the Gulf of Mexico covering topics such as hydrology, groundwater, urban watersheds, water quality, water protection, and water conversation.

While traveling along the watershed, educators are equipped with curriculum, activities, and resources to incorporate into their lesson plans. The tools teachers receive are aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills standards and help teachers meet their academic objectives required by the State. Participants also earn continuing education credits.

“This is a much-needed resource for teachers who are helping to shape our future generations perceptions of the environment,” added Hodgson. “We need to ensure they can understand, analyze, and address environmental challenges and opportunities.”
