Local Groups Join ‘Wreaths across America’ to Honor Veterans

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – Local representatives from the Sons of the American Revolution, Hays County Veteran Services Office and Civil Air Patrol participated December 17 in the National Wreaths across America ceremony at the Hays County Veterans Memorial in San Marcos. The ceremony helps ensures that veterans are not forgotten by placing wreaths at veterans’ graves and announcing their names. The wreath ceremonies take place at Arlington National Cemetery and more than 1,000 other locations on land and sea each December. More information about the ceremony is at www.wreathsacrossamerica.org.

Joining Hays County Veteran Services Officer Jude Prather at the San Marcos ceremony was Kyle resident Stuart G. Hoyt, in full Revolutionary War uniform, of the William Hightower Chapter of the Texas Society of the Sons of the American Revolution based in New Braunfels. Jackson Baker, incoming Cadet Commander, and Christopher Baker, outgoing Cadet Commander of the “Tex” Hill Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol of San Marcos, also participated in the ceremony.

The Hays County Veteran Services Office provides a variety of assistance to area veterans. Any veteran who wants assistance with paperwork, claims filing, medal replacement and other needs in Hays County is encouraged to contact the Hays County Veteran Services Office at 512-392-8387 or http://www.co.hays.tx.us/veteran-services-1.aspx.
