The San Marcos Police Department announced early this afternoon that Richard Blythe was arrested in Killeen, Texas, on Monday, Feb. 4.
SMPD has been searching for Blythe since January 18 regarding a case involving a 9-month-old, who had suffered multiple injuries.
The injuries included a skull fracture, broken ribs and several lacerations to the liver. Many of the injuries were in the process of healing.
Police issued a warrant for Blythe’s arrest after a two-month investigation and interviews with Child Protective Services, the child’s mother and doctors at Dell Children’s hospital where the child was last being treated.
The mother of the child, Maudicello Cabello-Perez, was taken into custody on Jan. 10 by San Marcos Police officers on charges of abandoning/endangering a child by criminal negligence.
According to the City of San Marcos, Blythe was scheduled to turn himself in to authorities when he fled the San Marcos area.
The suspect is expected to be transported back to Hays County within the next few weeks, city officials said.
The child was admitted to Dell Children’s Hospital in November 2018 and was reported to still be in the hospital in January.
