San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District is making strides to engage its students in learning every day.

San Marcos CISD has nearly 8,000 students enrolled between its high school, two middle schools and six elementary schools according to the district’s website.

San Marcos CISD honors Veterans

San Marcos CISD campuses honored Veterans throughout the week and will continue to honor the men and women serving in the armed forces into next week.

Commissioner Bush visits SMCISD for Texas History lesson

Commissioner George P. Bush made a special visit to Goodnight MS as a part of his ‘Year of Education’ Initiative.

During his visit, Commissioner Bush taught an interactive Texas History Map lesson and gave a brief presentation on a cannonball that was found on the grounds at the Alamo and is now housed in the GLO’s Archives and Records Department.

SMHS students experience Election Day in San Marcos, TX

A dozen San Marcos HS students had the pleasure to serve as student election clerks at First Baptist Church and the Hays Government Center during Election Day in San Marcos. The students checked in and processed voters, explained the use of the voting equipment, and distributed ballots to registered voters.

Mendez students perform successful math “surgery”

Students in Ms. Rodriguez’s class at Mendez Elementary performed successful surgery on their long division problems on November 6. The students worked through multiple math word problems to earn bandages to treat their patients.

Children’s Dual Language Author motivates SMCISD students

Children’s author Xavier Garza visited San Marcos CISD campuses on November 7 to speak with students about the importance of reading, writing and encouraged our students to be authors of their own stories. Garza also read his book Just One Itsy Bitsy Little Bite / Sólo una mordidita chiquitita.

SMCISD art students earn a Spot in CTMC calendar

San Marcos CISD students were recognized by the Central Texas Medical Center on November 7 as the hospital announced the winners of the 2020 CREATION Health Kids Art Calendar Contest.

Out of 400 works of art received from schools and communities from the Hays County Area, 23 SMCISD students received an award and earned a spot in the 2020 calendar!

Mad City Money provides life lesson to Goodnight MS students

In partnership with A+ Federal Credit Union, Goodnight Middle School hosted the Mad City Money program on November 6 to provide students with valuable life lessons.

Mad City Money is a 2-3 hour hands-on simulation that gives middle school and high school students a preview of the adult world – complete with an occupation, salary, spouse, student loan debt, credit card debt, and medical insurance payments. Mad City Money allows participants to practice budgeting, make mistakes, and experience consequences in a realistic but safe environment.

San Marcos CISD hosts Deployment Ceremony for U.S. Army

San Marcos CISD had the honor and pleasure to host the 4-133rd Field Artillery Deployment Ceremony on November 9 at Toyota Rattler Stadium for 371 Army soldiers.

San Marcos HS student Caitlin Hagerty opened the ceremony with an amazing performance of the National Anthem. The district’s Transportation Department also participated in the ceremony by providing transportation to Rattler Stadium for all 371 soldiers.
