Major Long Term Construction To Start On Montopolis Drive This Week

This detour is necessary so that crews can remove the existing Montopolis Drive Bridge to northbound US 183 and construct a new and improved bridge over US 183…

While construction is tough on everyone, CTRMA is trying to do everything they can to minimize disruptions and ask neighbors to bear with us during this noise-producing work.

Beginning on June 12, 2018,* eastbound Montopolis Drive traffic will detour via a newly constructed section of roadway that will run adjacent to the existing US 183.

This detour is necessary so that crews can remove the existing Montopolis Drive Bridge to northbound US 183 (not the steel truss bridge over the Colorado River) and construct a new and improved bridge over US 183. To minimize impacts to traffic, the deconstruction of the existing Montopolis Drive bridge will take place overnight June 15-18.*

*Dates are subject to change based on weather and other circumstances.

LONG-TERM IMPACTS

  • The Montopolis Drive bridge to northbound US 183 will be CLOSED, and ultimately removed and reconstructed.

  • Traffic on eastbound Montopolis Drive will detour via a newly constructed section of roadway along the existing US 183 to Vargas Road to access US 183.

  • A short section of Vargas Road between Lynch Lane and the Montopolis Drive Detour road will be CLOSED TEMPORARILY.

SHORT-TERM IMPACTS

Intermittent road closures will take place at the following intersections while the new section of roadway is being constructed along US 183:

° Del Monte Road at Montopolis Drive

° Bonnett Street at US 183

° Saxon Lane at US 183

° Vargas Road at US 183

*Dates are subject to change based on weather and other circumstances.

Please be advised:

  • Bicycle and pedestrian access across US 183 at Montopolis Drive and at Vargas Road will be closed during this phase of construction activity.

  • The Capital Metro bus stops on Vargas Road near US 183 will be closed during this phase of construction; please refer to Capital Metro’s website for alternative area bus route locations and schedules: capmetro.org

  • For your safety and the safety of our construction crews, we urge you to ‘Drive Friendly,’ stay alert, and minimize distractions. ‘Thank You’ in advance for your patience.

Alternate Routes:

Drivers may experience increased travel delays on US 183. Potential routes to avoid Montopolis Drive/Vargas Road at US 183 include:

  • Riverside Drive
  • SH 71
  • North Pleasant Valley Road
  • Springdale Road

What will Montopolis Drive Intersection with US 183 look like in its Final Condition?

The Montopolis Drive intersection will be transformed to a more traditional intersection design as illustrated in the map on the right.

Traffic signals will be installed on both sides of the intersection on the new general-purpose lanes. In its final condition, Montopolis Drive will be a bridge over the new 183 South Expressway.

The elevation of Montopolis Drive will be similar
to what it is today, while US 183 will pass underneath.
