Mark Gleason seeking re-election for San Marcos City Council Place 5

Sierra Martin | Managing Editor

SAN MARCOS — Mark Gleason has announced his re-election for San Marcos City Council Place 5 and has filed his Appointment of Campaign Treasurer form for the November 2021 election. Gleason was sworn into his position as a San Marcos City Council member on Dec. 14, 2020, by winning the majority vote against Omar Baca.

The following statement was provided by Mark Gleason regarding his intent to run for re-election.

I am honored to announce I am seeking re-election for San Marcos City Council Place 5.  My service as member, Vice Chair, and Chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission as well as other boards and commissions and now City Council have provided me with tremendous opportunities to increase my awareness of community concerns and needs.  My wife Ruah, an experienced Texas public school teacher, and I have been homeowners in the Blanco Gardens neighborhood on the eastside of San Marcos for over 20 years and we are blessed to be expecting our first child this fall.  I believe my years as a dedicated community volunteer, neighborhood advocate, and leader in city government provide meaningful perspective and experience to our City Council. Our community and region continue to rebound from the hardships of the pandemic and Winter Storm Uri.  I have listened and problem solved with our citizens, community organizations, city staff, and civic leaders to help revitalize San Marcos. As a flood survivor in both 2015 floods, I am committed to bringing critical flood mitigation projects across the finish line.

I’m asking for the opportunity to continue my work on our City Council. With your support, we can work together to protect our community while enhancing opportunities for all of the people of San Marcos for generations to come.
