 Leavitt Nabs Professional Contract In Germany

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Former Texas State women’s basketball two-time all-league performer Toshua Leavitt has announced that she signed a contract with Eintracht Braunschweig, a team based out of Braunschweig, Germany, to continue her basketball career in the professional ranks.

Eintracht Braunschweig finished eighth in the 12-team league in the top German professional league, Damen-Basketball-Bundesliga (DBBL), with a record of 6-17 during the 2018-19 campaign. The team earned a berth into the 2019 playoffs before being eliminated 2-0 in the opening round against top-seeded Herner.

“I am very excited for Toshua to fulfill a dream to play professional basketball,” Texas State women’s basketball head coach Zenarae Antoine said. “She has worked very hard to earn her degree as a first-generation college student and now becoming a professional basketball player adds to the many positive markers in her life. Like her Bobcat teammates before her that are playing professionally, she knows that she and an entire Texas State community behind her cheering for her.”

Leavitt made her mark as a prolific 3-point shooter and elite scorer during her four seasons in the Maroon and Gold. She was named to the All-Sun Belt team on two occasions with a second-team nod following her junior campaign and a first-team honor after the 2018-19 year. Leavitt was the sixth player under coach Antoine and 17th player in Bobcat women’s basketball history to score 1,000 career points.

During her final year in San Marcos, Leavitt has started all 31 games and ranked third in the conference in scoring (16.7 ppg), ninth in assists (3.3 apg), eighth in steals (1.8 spg), and first in made 3-point field goals (109).

Leavitt graduated as the record holder for both Texas State and the Sun Belt Conference in made 3-pointers for a career (363), single-season (137) and single-game (10). She finished her career as one of nine current Division I women’s basketball players to have made at least 350 career 3-point field goal attempts.

She led the conference with 11 games of 20-plus points scored, including two 30-point efforts. Her 35-point game at Georgia State ranks as the highest single-game effort by any player in the Sun Belt Conference this past season. Leavitt ranks ninth in program history with 1,542 career points in her storied career at Texas State.

“It has always been a dream of mine to play professional basketball,” Leavitt said. “I had an amazing career at Texas State, and I was able to accomplish many of the goals I created for myself. I had tremendous coaches that have given so much to me and have taught me so much about life and basketball. I am so blessed and thankful for the impact they have had on my life. I am beyond blessed and excited for the opportunity in Germany. It is exciting to think about what the future holds for me in this journey.”

Leavitt joins former Texas State great Taeler Deer (2014-18) in the professional basketball ranks. Deer will compete in her second season overseas with a new team, Celje, out of Slovenia.

Shuffield Named to ABCA/Rawlings All-Central Region Team

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State’s Dalton Shuffield was named to the ABCA/Rawlings Central All-Region Second Team on Wednesday. He was one of 10 players from the Sun Belt Conference selected to one of the two all-region teams.

The sophomore shortstop led the Bobcats with a .330 batting average, 72 hits and 10 stolen bases on the way to the Texas State’s first-ever Sun Belt regular season title. He also scored 37 runs and drove in 26. His 12 doubles were tied for the third most on the team and finished tied for second with three triples.

Shuffield posted a .981 fielding percentage as he committed just four errors while posting 131 assists and 71 putouts.

The San Antonio native is the 16th Bobcat to by honor with all-region accolades. Shuffield is also only the second to be recognized since joining the Sun Belt (Theodore Hoffman; 2017).
