Texas State Football Travels To Coastal Carolina
SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State football team played its final game of the 2019 season when the Bobcats travel to Conway, S.C., for a Sun Belt Conference game at Coastal Carolina on Saturday, Nov. 30. ESPN+ will show the game beginning at 11 a.m. (Central).
Texas State (3-8, 2-6 Sun Belt) enters the game looking to win its first road game of the season after suffering a 35-13 loss at No. 23/24 Appalachian State on Nov. 23 The loss came after the Bobcats split their final two home games of the season against South Alabama (won 30-28) on Nov. 9 and Troy (lost 63-27) on Nov. 16.
Coastal Carolina (4-7, 1-6 Sun Belt) enters Saturday’s game looking to bounce back from three straight losses at ULM (45-42) on Nov. 23, against Louisiana (48-7) on Nov. 16 and at Arkansas State (28-27) on Nov 9. The Chanticleers defeated Troy (36-25) on Nov. 2.

SETTING THE SCENE
Saturday’s game was the final game of the 2019 season for both Texas State and Coastal Carolina. The Bobcats will have 22 seniors participating in their final collegiate game.
The 22 seniors include Malik Alley, Aaron Brewer, Nikolas Daniels, Ishmael Davis, Frankie Griffin, LeDarrius Harris, Mason Hays, Kumonde Hines, Clifton Lewis Jr.., John Lilly, Bryan London II, Alvin Pacheco, Jacob Rowland, Joshua Rowland, Jalen Smith, David Tachie, Anthony D. Taylor, Anthony J. Taylor, JaShon Waddy, Justin Warner, Lincoln Warren and Hutch White.
Bryan London II needs to record three tackles to break the school record for most tackles in a career. London enters the game with 445 tackles, two behind Greg Pitts (1999-02). He also needs four solo tackles to pass Pitts for second place on Texas State’s career list.
Anthony J. Taylor needs to break up one pass to move into sole possession of Texas State’s singles season record for most breakups in a season. Taylor enters the game tied with Craig Mager (2011), Nicholas Jack (1995) and Bobby Watkins (1980) for the single-season record with 12 breakups this season.
Taylor has 22 pass breakups in his career (2016-19) and needs three pass breakups to tie Epsil Williams (2003-06) and Jack (1994-96) for fourth place on Texas State’s career records list. He needs four breakups to tie Darryl Morris (2008-12) and Kendall Jones (1998-01) for second place on the list.
Hutch White has 60 pass receptions this season, and that ties him with Cameron Luke (2007) and K.R. Carpenter (2003) for fourth place on Texas State’s single-season list. He needs six catches to pass Da’Marcus Griggs (2010) for third place on the list. He needs 14 receptions to pass Luke (2008) on the list.
SCOUTING TEXAS STATE
Nikolas Daniels recorded a game-high 11 tackles at No. 24-ranked Appalachian State to mark the fourth double-digit total this season. He also tallied a season-best 14 tackles at Arkansas State, 11 stops against Wyoming, and 10 tackles against South Alabama. Daniels ranks ninth among Sun Belt Conference leaders with 7.7 tackles per game.
London II also had 10 tackles to mark the sixth time that he has logged 10 or more tackles. He ranks third among Sun Belt leaders with 104 tackles this season. It marks the third time in his career London II has logged 100 tackles in a season. He also had 141 tackles in 2016 and 109 tackles in 2018.
Senior kicker Joshua Rowland kicked a pair of 48-yard field goals at No. 23/24-ranked Appalachian State. It marks the first time that he has kicked two 40-yard field goals in a game this season. It was the third time this year that Rowland has made multiple field goals in a game. He connected on three field goals against Georgia State and South Alabama. Rowland enters the Coastal Carolina game having converted five straight field goal attempts.
Senior Aaron Brewer has been a constant fixture on Texas State’s offensive line in the last four seasons. He looks to start his 47th consecutive game at Coastal Carolina.
SCOUTING CHANTICLEERS
Coastal Carolina enters Saturday’s game with six of its 11 games being decided by eight points or less, including a 12-7 victory at Kansas on Sept. 7 and a 36-35 win against Troy on Nov. 2. The Chanticleers opened the season with a 30-23 loss against Eastern Michigan on Aug. 31, a 30-27 triple-overtime loss against Georgia Southern on Oct 19, a 28-27 setback at Arkansas State on Nov. 16 and a 45-42 loss at ULM last Saturday.
Coastal Carolina looks to snap a three-game skid against Texas State. The three losses came against Louisiana (48-7) on Nov. 7, at Arkansas State and ULM.
Senior Ky’Jon Tyler needs to record 32 receiving yards to become the 11th Chanticleer to record 1,000 receiving yards in a season.
The ground attack is led by junior running back CJ Marable, who has rushed for 964 yards and he needs 36 yards to become the fourth Coastal Carolina running back to reach the 1,000-yard plateau.
Bobcats Stay Unbeaten at Home with Gritty Win over Privateers
SAN MARCOS, Texas – Despite a slow offensive start, the Texas State women’s basketball team (3-2) responded in the third quarter to outscore New Orleans (2-3) by 10-points in the period and held on to defeat the Privateers, 51-49.
Sophomore guard Kennedy Taylor scored 12 points to lead the team and posted eight crucial points in the second half to help the Bobcats remain perfect inside Strahan Arena.
“What a toughly battled game it was toward the end. I can’t tell you it was the perfect game as far as taking care of the basketball and finishing,” said Texas State head coach Zenarae Antoine. “We fought all the way toward the end which is really important. We did a great job executing after halftime and had to find some mental toughness and win loose balls.”
Both teams struggled offensively from the tip and each shot 20% in the first period. UNO led 10-8 after the first and outscored Texas State by one in the second period to claim a 21-18 lead at the half.
The Bobcats found their offensive rhythm in the third quarter and went 7-for-14 from the floor and outscored the Privateers, 17-7. Taylor dropped eight of her 12 points in the quarter and was 3-for-4 from the field. Junior guard Avionne Alexander converted an old fashioned three-point play and senior guard Bailey Holle drained a three to help the cause. The Bobcat defense was stout and held UNO to 12.5% (2-for-16) from the field and forced six turnovers.
The resilient Privateers attempted to comeback in the fourth quarter and scored 21 points, the highest by either team in any period, but Texas State made big plays when it needed to.
With Texas State up by three points and 15 seconds remaining senior guard Brooke Holle generated turnover and spilt her free throws to put the Bobcats up by four, 50-46. UNO’s Vaquela Pimpton came down the floor and hit a three to cut it to one and Brooke Holle again split her free throws to put the Bobcats up by two.
The defense held on with nine seconds left and pressured New Orleans into a poor look from beyond the arc to seal the win.
Junior forward Lillie Moore registered a career-high eight points and seven boards off the bench and had critical plays down the stretch. Texas State, which has turned opponents over to a tune of 22.5 per game, flustered UNO into 24. Both teams combined for 46 turnovers.
Texas State shot 40% (18-for-45) from the floor, 28% from three (3-for-14) and 57% (12-for-21) from the foul line). TXST limited New Orleans to a season-low 28.8% (17-for-59) from the floor, 33% from downtown (4-for-12) and 69% (11-for-16) at the charity stripe.
UNO out-rebounded Texas State 40-31 and hauled in 16 offensive boards. The Privateers led in points off turnovers (15-14), points in the paint (22-16), second-chance points (6-0) and bench scoring (27-23), while the Bobcats held a slight edge in fast-break points (9-4).
Dionjhae Thomas led all scorers with 13 points for New Orleans.
Denmark’s Kasper Nyland Signs with the Texas State Men’s Golf Team
SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State men’s golf coach Shane Howell announced the signing of Kasper Nyland of Denmark for the 2020-21 season.
Nyland signed with Texas State after winning the Turkish National Amateur Open and posting four top 10 finishes. He finished in 10th place at the 2019 Danish National Stroke Play Championship, in fourth place at the 2019 DGU Elite Tour III and won the Lalandia Junior Open.
Nyland is the third golfer Texas State has signed for the 2020-21 season, joining Brayden Ingebrigtsen and Payne Johnson.
Texas State loses four seniors off the 2019-20 squad. The Bobcats finished their fall schedule with four top 10 finishes, including a second-place showing at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate and a third-place finish at the Bentwater Intercollegiate. Texas State will return to the links on Feb. 10-11 at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate.
Texas State’s Three-Game Homestand Kicks Off against New Orleans
SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women’s basketball team (2-2) kicks off a three-game homestand at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27 inside Strahan Arena as it plays host to New Orleans (2-3).
Brant Freeman and Suzanne Fox will have the call on ESPN+ and Clint Shields has the radio play-by-play call on 89.9 KTSW.

Texas State competed to a three-point halftime deficit at Kansas, but ultimately fell 68-48 in Lawrence.
The Bobcats were down 33-30 at the half and used a 12-0 spurt to draw closer after trailing by as many as 15 and held KU to a season-low eight points in the second quarter.
Texas State was limited to just 18 second-half points.
TXST was led by Taylor’s season-high 14 points and Holle’s eight rebounds. Texas State shot 31% from the field (19-for-61) and 20% (5-for-20) from behind the arc.
The Jayhawks shot 43% (26-for-40) and 42% (11-for-26) from three. Kansas led in total rebounds (47-34), points off turnovers (17-9), points in the paint (26-20), second-chance points (17-8) and bench scoring (21-17).
Scouting New Orleans
The Privateers are coming off a 65-60 home loss against in-state foe Louisiana and check-in with a 2-3 record.
Earlier this year UNO traveled to Ole Miss and earned a 69-64 win against the Rebels, its first win over a Southeastern Conference team since a home win versus Florida in 1995.
Senior guard Rehema Franklin leads the team averaging 13.2 points per game and was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week for collecting 14 points and 11 rebounds against the Rebels. Senior forward Whitley Larry leads the squad in rebounding (7.0).
Keeshawn Davenport has been the head coach of the Privateers for nine years and is 62-165.
Series History
Texas State and New Orleans have never met on the hardwood. The Privateers reside in the Southland Conference and the Bobcats are 198-198 against the current alignment of the conference. Texas State was a member of the Southland from 1987-2012, while UNO joined in 2013.

Bobcats grind out win vs. Abilene Christian, 61-56
SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State (5-2) locked down defensively in the second half to pull out a 61-56 decision vs. Abilene Christian (2-4) Monday night at Strahan Arena. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 3-0 in the Southwestern Showdown and are 4-0 at home this year.
“That was a tough game,” said head coach Danny Kaspar. “They [Abilene Christian] played really good defense which was a major reason why they were an NCAA team last year. I knew it would be a tough game, so I am glad about the way our guys came back after the first half.”
BOBCAT NUMBERS
• The turning points in the game was at the beginning of the second half when the Bobcats held the Wildcats to 10 points on their first 23 possessions.
• Overall, TXST shot 48.0 percent from the floor. ACU outshot the home team, however, from three-point range (.385-.333) and at the free-throw line (.765-.471).
• For the second time this year, the Bobcats had four or more players score in double figures. Senior guard Nijal Pearson led the way with a game-high 16 points on 6-of-14 shooting. He also had three rebounds.
• Sophomores Caleb Asberry, Mason Harrell and Alonzo Sule all had 10 points. Asberry logged a career-high four steals, Harrell turned in his third consecutive game with 10 or more points, and Sule’s 10 points were a season-high.
• Although junior forward Isiah Small scored just three points, he led the Bobcats in rebounds and assists with nine and four, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Abilene Christian opened the game with seven unanswered points and led 13-5 at 11:53 mark.
• Pearson sparked a 10-2 run with a four-point play to give the Bobcats a 21-19 lead with 6:54 remaining in the half.
• The Wildcats closed the first half with a 10-3 run and went into the locker room with a 36-30 lead. ACU’s senior guard Payten Ricks led the visiting team with 11 points, while Asberry led the Bobcats with 10.
• The Bobcats came out of intermission by scoring the first five points and used a 17-2 scoring run, highlighted by a 10-0 burst to take a 54-46 lead with 5:22 remaining in the game. The Wildcats were scoreless for over seven minutes in that stretch.
• ACU pulled within three points at 56-53, but Pearson delivered the dagger with an easy layup with 1:50 to go and the Bobcats eventually won 61-56.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Texas State outscored Abilene Christian 31-20 in the second half and is now 1-1 this year when trailing at halftime.
• The Bobcats held the Wildcats to a .172 field goal percentage in the second half, including a 0-of-6 display from 3-point range.
• Texas State has outscored the opposing bench in every game this season and held a 28-21 advantage in the win vs. Abilene Christian.
• For the second consecutive game, the Bobcats turned their opponent over 16 times. They outscored the Wildcats in points off of turnovers 13-12 and dominated in fastbreak points 12-4.
• ACU outrebounded TXST 40-30 with the biggest discrepancy on the offensive glass at 15-6. The Wildcats registered 15 second-chance points. ACU slightly won the battle in the paint 26-24.
• After scoring 11 in the first half, Ricks scored two points in the final 20 minutes to lead the Wildcats with 13 points. He also led the team with eight rebounds. Junior center Kolton Kohl followed his lead with 11 points and seven boards.
