Martin Selected To Google Cloud Academic All-District® Team

In her 19 appearances, Martin posted 11 matches with at least five saves. For the season, she made a career-high 91 saves that ranks as the fifth most in a season in TXST history.

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State soccer’s Heather Martin was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® VII First Team on Thursday.

The teams are voted on by members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Martin has a 4.00 GPA and is majoring in psychology. She has twice been named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s List and received the Texas State Star of Excellence. Four times the junior has been named to the Texas State Dean’s List.

On the pitch, Martin concluded her record setting junior season by setting Bobcat season marks in goals against average (0.45), save percentage (.919) and shutouts (9).

Her GAA also ranks as the third best in Sun Belt Conference history and is the ninth best in the nation at the conclusion of conference tournaments. She has the second best save percentage in the country and is the first goalkeeper in program history to finish with a save percentage above .900.

In her 19 appearances, Martin posted 11 matches with at least five saves. For the season, she made a career-high 91 saves that ranks as the fifth most in a season in TXST history. She ended the season with third on the Bobcats’ career list for saves with 212.

Martin recorded an 11-2-4 record between the posts in 2018. Her victory total is tied for the fifth most in a season in program history while the four draws matched a program record set back in 1999, the team’s inaugural season. In her career, the junior has 25 victories to place her in a tie for second in Bobcat history.

Her performance in goal helped TXST win its first-ever Sun Belt regular season championship, go undefeated in conference play (8-0-2) for the third time in program history and reach the finals of the Sun Belt Championship for the first time since joining the league.

The Bobcats also ended the season on a 13-match unbeaten streak, the fifth longest active streak in the NCAA Division I.

Martin was selected as the Sun Belt’s Defensive Player of the Year and was an All-Sun Belt First Team selection for the second straight year. She is the only player in conference history to be named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week three times in a season in back-to-back campaigns (2018 & 2017).

With her selection, Martin is the fifth Bobcat to make the Google Cloud Academic All-District® Team. She joins Sarah Buchrucker (2001 & 2002), Jourdan Brown (2014), Rachel Grout (2017) and Tori Hale (2013 & 2014) in receiving the honor.

The junior goalkeeper now advances to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. Honorees on the Academic All-America® teams will be announced in early December.
