Massey Receives Capt. Paul W. Peña Scholarship At SMA

San Marcos Academy honored one of its fallen heroes at an assembly Jan. 21 with the presentation of the Captain Paul W. Peña Memorial Scholarship.

Receiving the scholarship was senior Cody Massey of San Marcos, a day student in his second year at the Academy. A Cadet Second Lieutenant in the Junior ROTC program, Massey serves as the Special Project Office for the Bear Battalion.

He is a member of the San Marcos Academy Color Guard and Honor Guard and is the commander of the Roaring Bears Raiders team. He also is a Student Ambassador. Massey is the son of Pamela and Robert Gage.

Massey is the tenth student to receive the Captain Paul W. Peña Memorial Scholarship since it was established at the Academy by family and friends of Captain Peña following his death.

Captain Paul W. Peña 2000 graduate of SMA and a 2004 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Peña was killed in action in Afghanistan in January 2010.

Paul’s mother, Cecilia Peña of Kyle, assisted with the presentation of the scholarship, which is awarded each year to an upper school student who, like Paul did, demonstrates loyalty, integrity, and leadership qualities representative of Academy values.
