Meadows Center Hosts Slate Of Events At Spring Lake For July 4 Weekend

The Meadows Center will host a 4th of July weekend celebration at Spring Lake full of family fun, outdoor learning and hands-on activities fun for all ages. Fourth of July programs and specials include:

 

Interpretive Nature Hike | July 2,3 & 4 • 11:00am – 12:30pm • $5 Donation Suggested

 

Experience the 251-acre Spring Lake Natural Area that sits just above the headwaters of the San Marcos River. From tall Live Oaks to Mexican buckeye, this guided hike will explore some of the amazing plants that call this area home. Come discover what these trails have to offer!

 

Kids Activities | July 2,3, & 4 • 11:00am – 3:00pm • $1 Donations for Supplies Suggested

 

Drop by the Discovery Hall for hands-on activity stations specially designed for kids and their families.

  • Bug Picking Station:Discover what bugs live in the water at Spring lake by exploring water samples.
  • Face Painting Station:Join us for a few hours of face painting!
  • Feather Hair Station:Learn how to create your own handmade hair accessories using feathers and other natural items.

 

Film Screening: Written in Water | July 2,3 & 4 • 3:00pm – 4:00pm

 

Join us in Discovery Hall for a film screening of “Written in Water”. This hour-long movie focuses on the Ogallala Aquifer and examines the conflicts, politics, economics and groundwater depletion in the High Plains region. The film follows farmers and a West Texas community that is struggling to survive as the wells run dry and highlights the tension between property rights advocates and State-mandated pumping limits.

 

Nighttime Aquaria & Fireworks Watching Event | July 4 • 8:30pm – 10:30pm • Donations Accepted

 

End a long 4th of July weekend with a special nighttime opening of Spring Lake Hall. Visitors are invited to explore the Discovery Hall’s exhibits and aquaria beginning at 8:30pm. Head upstairs to the rooftop at 9pm for an exclusive view of the City of San Marcos’ fireworks show. Watch the fireworks glow against the crystal clear waters of Spring Lake. Concessions will be available. $5 – $10 suggested donation at the door.
