SAN MARCOS, Texas – After a tough opening loss in the Sun Belt Conference opener on Friday, the Texas State men’s basketball team looks to bounce back Sunday afternoon at Coastal Carolina. Tip is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT in the HTC Center.
The Bobcats enter the game 7-7 on the season and 0-1 in conference play while the Chanticleers are 7-7 overall with a 1-0 record in SBC action after defeating UTA on Friday.

Brant Freeman will have the call on the radio with the game being broadcast on 1300 AM The Zone out of Austin and KTSW 89.9 FM out of San Marcos. Nijal Pearson is coming off an 18-point, 4-rebound and 2-steal performance against Appalachian State. For the season, he is averaging 14.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. The sophomore has made 41.3 percent of his shots and 35.2 percent on three-point attempts. His 25 made three-pointers are tied for the team lead with Tyler Blount.
Leading TXST with 6.5 rpg is Immanuel King. The senior forward is netting 9.9 ppg with a 62.0 field goal percentage that ranks fourth in the Sun Belt. He and Eric Terry have both blocked a team-high 11 shots apiece.
Both Blount and Terry are putting up 7.4 ppg. Blount has knocked down 42.4 percent of his long distance attempts.
Alex Peacock enters the game leading the Bobcats with 20 steals and an 82.1 free throw percentage. The Bloomington, Illinois native is grabbing 5.4 rpg and is second on the team with 1.9 apg.
Managing the offense is Marlin Davis, who has dished out 3.5 apg and holds a 2.9 assist-to-turnover ratio. Over the past two games, he is scoring 10.5 ppg and shooting 57.1 percent from the field.
Scouting Coastal Carolina
Coastal Carolina will be playing its fifth consecutive home game on Sunday. The Chanticleers are 4-4 in the HTC Center this season with wins over Montreat, Piedmont International, St. Andrews and UTA. Losses have been to College of Charleston, Lamar, Wake Forest and Wofford. Five of the seven losses for CCU has seen it been held to 67 or fewer points with exceptions being against South Carolina and the Terriers.
Four players are averaging double-digits led by Jaylen Shaw at 16.7 following a career-high 26 points Friday night. He is shooting 50.3 percent from the field, 38.1 percent on three-point attempts and 77.3 percent at the charity stripe. He is averaging 5.1 apg and 1.8 spg that rank third and fifth, respectively, in the SBC.
Zac Cuthbertson enters is putting up 16.5 ppg on 46.9 percent shooting. He leads all Chanticleers with 7.2 rpg, 15 blocks and 80.0 free throw percentage.
Contributing 10.9 ppg and 6.8 rpg is Demario Beck. The senior forward is shooting a team best 58.4 percent from the field and is second with 14 rejections.
The fourth double-digit scorer is Artur Labinowicz at 10.2 per contest. His 1.9 apg are the second most on the squad.
Ajay Sanders has made a team-high 20 three-pointers at a 38.5 percent clip to put up 6.6 ppg. Matt Lindsey is netting 5.7 ppg with 18 of his 25 made shots being from beyond the arc. Seeing action in 12 games, all off the bench, Amidou Bamba has made 28-of-39 (71.8%) field goal attempts to net 5.5 ppg.
All-Time vs. Chanticleers
Texas State leads the all-time series over Coastal Carolina 2-1. The teams split the season series last season with the road squad winning both times. The Bobcats won 52-50 in the HTC Center that saw Pearson hit the game-winning mid-range jumper with 15 seconds left on the clock. Sunday will be the second meeting ever in the Palmetto State between the programs.
