Men’s Basketball’s Season Opener To Broadcast On Television

Prior to starting the 2017-18 season, the Bobcats will host Rogers State in an exhibition game on Nov. 4.

SAN MARCOS, TexasWhen the Texas State men’s basketball team opens its season on Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. CT on the road against Air Force in the first game of the Men Against Breast Cancer Showcase, it will be broadcast nationally on ESPN3. It is the first time the Bobcats have opened a season on an ESPN network since the 2013-14 campaign.

TXST is coming off the program’s best season this century after a 22-win campaign with an appearance in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship game, first postseason tournament (CIT) appearance in 20 years and first postseason victories as a NCAA program. During the season, Kavin Gilder-Tilbury surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career and Nijal Pearson broke the program record for points in a season by a freshman with 477.

The season opener against the Falcons will be the 48th game nationally or regionally broadcasted/streamed since head coach Danny Kaspar took over the TXST program. Last season saw 18 contests be broadcast or streamed online, which accounted for half of the Bobcats total games.

Seven returners are back from last season while being joined by eight newcomers. Seeing significant minutes last season were senior Immanuel King and sophomores Marlin Davis, Nedeljko Prijovic and Pearson. Other returners are Tyler Blount, Deris Duncan and Eric Terry, who redshirted the 16-17 campaign.

Joining the returners will be junior college transfers Isaiah Gurley, Tre’Larenz Nottingham and Alex Peacock, all of whom have two years of eligibility remaining. Jaylen Shead arrives via Cal Poly and will sit out the 2017-18 season because of NCAA transfer rules. This year’s freshman class consists of Shelby Adams, Reggie Miller, Quentin Scott and Alonzo Sule.

Prior to starting the 2017-18 season, the Bobcats will host Rogers State in an exhibition game on Nov. 4. Tipoff will be at 7 p.m. in Strahan Coliseum.
