The San Marcos Arts Commission is placing ten mermaid statues in various locations around San Marcos in what has been named the “Mermaid March.”
Work began last week to install the statues and is expected to be complete early this week.
The Mermaid March is a public art project that celebrates the art, culture and natural beauty of San Marcos. The intent is to enhance San Marcos as a tourist destination, to provide a source of pride for citizens and to showcase the wealth of talent within our creative economy.
The mermaid forms were created by the Fountain People and painted by various artists selected by the San Marcos Arts Commission.
Locations include:
“Ode to Ralph” by Cheryl Latimer
“Aqua Reina” by Jamie Lynn Shelton
“Before Us” by Dianna Weems
“Mermaid Playground” by Malachy McKinney
“Liquid Metal” by Darin Woods
“Oh For a Muse of Fire” by April Laymen
“Flora” by Morgan Egan
“Mermaid Map” by Grace Park
“The Fish of the San Marcos Waterways” by Doug Hiser
