The San Marcos City Council will be holding their first of many Budget Workshops on Monday Evening.

Any city budget process takes several months and normally starts in March or April of every year and the council will have their hands full this year as they start working on their yearly budget.

The City of San Marcos has always relied heavily on Sales Tax Revenues, according to the City of San Marcos, the current received sales tax revenue totals are currently flat.

“We continue to believe retail sales are down partially due to reduced foreign travel and purchases by these travelers,” said Heather Hurlbert, Finance Director. “We also had significant tax collections from the construction of the Amazon distribution center in the prior year, which increased our revenue during that period.”

According to the current fiscal year budget, sales tax revenue makes up 45.70 percent of the San Marcos yearly general fund budget and property taxes make up 20.94 percent.

City council will also be appointing Dallari Landry as an Associate Judge of the San Marcos Municipal Court of Record for a two-year term.
