MOVE Texas will host Voter Registration Drives in San Marcos today at Texas State University, Texas Lutheran University and Austin Community College – Hays from 9 AM to 5 PM.
The drives are part of the organization’s state-wide initiative for National Voter Registration Day to help register college students to vote on their campuses.
National Voter Registration Day is a national holiday celebrating the US democracy. It was first observed in 2012 and has been growing in popularity every year since.
MOVE Texas fellows and student volunteers will be available to help potential first time and veteran voters register at over 35 college and high school campuses across Texas.
“Every year thousands of Texans find themselves unable to vote because they miss a registration deadline, don’t update their registration at a new address, or aren’t sure how to register,” said Drew Galloway, MOVE Texas Executive Director. “On National Voter Registration Day, we seek to change that narrative and empower more young people to vote.”
According to MOVE Texas officials, the organization registered a new voter every seven seconds on National Voter Registration Day 2018.
