Multiple 183 South Road Closures And Detours That Could Affect Your Weekly Commute

Short and long term lane, road closures and detours that may impact drivers along US 183 and adjacent roadways in east Austin.

Below is an overview of the 183 South project’s lane, road, and ramp closures. Work continues along US 183, including bridge construction, roadway installation, sound wall work, utility work.

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority is an independent government agency created in 2002 to improve the transportation system in Williamson and Travis counties.

The Mobility Authority is overseen by a seven-member Board of Directors. The Governor appoints the Chairman, and the Travis and Williamson counties Commissioners Courts each appoint three members to serve on the Board.

•LANE CLOSURE: US 183 U-turn(s) at Manor Road will be closed for Intersection Work. | Mon-Sun (05/13 – 05/19) 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM.

•LANE CLOSURE: US 183 general-purpose lanes in both directions there will be various closures at Manor Road for Intersection Work. | Mon-Sun (05/13 – 05/19) 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM.

•LANE CLOSURE: US 183 southbound general-purpose reduced to one lane from US 290 to Manor Road and right turn lane will be closed at Manor Rd for Sound Wall Construction. | Mon-Fri (05/13 – 05/17) 8:30 AM until 3:00 PM, Sat-Sun (05/18-05/19) 7 AM to 5 PM

•LANE CLOSURE: US 183 northbound mainlane closed from Marcel Gres Dr. to 51st St. and MLK Blvd U-Turn(s) will be closed for Sign Installation. | Sun-Thrus (05/12 – 05/16) 8:00 PM until 6:00 AM, Fri-Sun (05/17-05/18) 8 PM to 8 AM, Sun (05/19) 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM

•LANE CLOSURE: US 183 southbound general-purpose reduced to one lane from US 290 to Manor Rd and US 183 northbound mainlane reduced to one lane from Loyola Ln to US 290 for Roadway Base Installation. | Mon-Fri (05/13 – 05/17) 8:00 PM until 6:00 AM

•LANE CLOSURE: US 183 northbound mainlane one lane closed Patton Ave to Vargas and Thompson Ln will be closed at US 183 for Paving. Follow detour. | Thursday (05/16) 8:00 PM until 6:00 AM

•LANE CLOSURE: Manor Springdale Rd. westbound reduced to one lane from Pecan Brook Dr. to Susquehanna Ln for Paving. | Thurs (05/16) 8:00 PM until 6:00 AM, Fri (05/17) 8:00 PM to 10:00 AM

 

Long Term

 

ROAD CLOSURE: The US 183 underpass at Bolm Road will CLOSE PERMANENTLY to eastbound and westbound cross traffic and the traffic signal will be removed. Bolm Road eastbound traffic will detour via the south to north U-turn at Levander Loop to access US 183 northbound. Bolm Road westbound traffic will detour via a new temporary north to south U-turn located just north of Bolm Road to access US 183 Southbound

RAMP CLOSURE: SH 71 westbound exit ramp to US 183 southbound will be closed. Detour by exiting for the U-turn at E. Riverside Drive and heading eastbound on SH 71 to the US 183 southbound exit for bridge construction. | Beginning as early as Sunday, August 26, at 6 PM and lasting approximately 10-12 months

CONTINUOUS ROAD CLOSURE: US 183 southbound to US 183 northbound U-Turn will be closed at Levander Loop. Follow the signed detour for bridge construction. | Starting September 4, 2018, to August 31, 2019

ROAD CLOSURE: The signalized crossing of US 183 at 51st Street is permanently closed and the traffic signal has been removed. Drivers must utilize the U-turns at MLK and Manor/Springdale Road as an alternative to cross over US 183. | Starting October 11, 2018, to March 31, 2020

ROAD CLOSURE: Jet Lane closure at Bastrop Hwy. has been extended for roadway base installation. | Starting May 1, 2019, until  May 31, 2019, at 6 AM

ROAD CLOSURE: Clovis St. will be closed at Montopolis Dr. for Roadway Base Installation. | Starting at 6 AM May 6, 2019, until May 31, 2019, at 6 PM

CONTINUOUS ROAD CLOSURE: Continuous closure Interchange Blvd. at US 183 is extended for Roadway Base Installation. | Starting May 1, 2019, to May 31, 2019

CONSTRUCTION ZONE: Springdale Pedestrian Bridge will be closed for Demo/Reconstruction. Ped traffic to detour at Sprindale/Manor crossings for Pedestrian Bridge Construction. | Starting February 9, 2019, to October 2019

ROAD CLOSURE: The crossing of US 183 at Central Ave will permanently close. Drivers will instead use the U-turns at MLK and Bolm Road to reach the other side of US 183 for intersection work. | Starting October 15, 2018 – October 1, 2020.

ROAD CLOSURE: The crossing of US 183 at Hudson Street will permanently close. Drivers will instead use the U-turns at MLK and Bolm Road to reach the other side of US 183 for intersection work. | Starting October 15, 2018 – October 1, 2020

ROAD CLOSURE: The TechniCenter Drive crossing at US 183 will be permanently closed for intersection work. | Starting October 15, 2018 – October 1, 2020

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA) is an independent government agency created in 2002 to improve the transportation system in Williamson and Travis counties.

According to their website, their mission is “to implement innovative, multi-modal transportation solutions that reduce congestion and create transportation choices that enhance quality of life and economic vitality.”
The Mobility Authority was created and operates under the Texas Transportation Code Chapter 370 and is authorized under state law to implement a wide range of transportation systems including roadways, airports, seaports and transit services.
The Mobility Authority is authorized to issue revenue bonds to fund projects and can utilize user fees and/or taxes to fund operations and repay bonds.
