Multiple 183 South Road Closures And Detours That Could Affect Your Weekly Commute

Short and long term lane, road closures and detours that may impact drivers along US 183 and adjacent roadways in east Austin.

Below is an overview of the 183 South project’s lane, road, and ramp closures.Work continues along US 183, including bridge construction, roadway installation, sound wall work, utility work. All closures are weather permitting and subject to change.

Short Term

CONTINUOUS ROAD CLOSURE: Thompson Lane westbound and eastbound closure at US 183 for intersection work — 1/11/19 to 1/14/19 Friday – Monday from 8 PM to 4 AM

LANE CLOSURE: US 183 southbound reduced to one lane from 51st to MLK Blvd. for roadway base installation — 1/13/19 to 1/15/19 Sunday from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Monday from 8 PM to 6 AM

LANE CLOSURE: Continuous lane closure at MLK Blvd. from Tannehill Lane to Regency Drive. MLK Blvd. eastbound center turn lane will be closed and MLK Blvd. westbound right thru lane will be closed for intersection work — 1/14/19 to 1/19/19 Monday-Saturday from 7 AM to 6 PM

LANE CLOSURE: US 183 southbound right general purpose lane will be closed from US 290 to Manor/Springdale Road for retaining wall construction — 1/14/19 to 1/18/19 Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM to 3 PM

LANE CLOSURE: Manor Springdale Road there will be various closures in both directions. Traffic will be maintained in all directions for intersection work — 1/14/19 to 1/18/19 Monday-Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM

LANE CLOSURE: US 183 in both directions there will be various closures from E. Riverside Drive to Vargas Road for highway lighting — 1/14/19 to 1/16/19 Monday-Tuesday from 8 PM to 6 AM

LANE CLOSURE: Loyola Lane eastbound reduced to one lane from US 183 to Millrace Drive for roadway base installation — 1/14/19 to 1/18/19 Monday-Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM

ROAD CLOSURE: US 183 southbound to northbound U-turn at MLK Blvd. will be closed for intersection work — 1/14/19 to 1/19/19 Monday-Saturday from 9 AM to 3 PM

ROAD CLOSURE: US 183 southbound to northbound U-turn at Manor/Springdale will be closed for intersection work — 1/14/19 to 1/18/19 Monday-Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM

LANE CLOSURE: Various closures at US 183 northbound general purpose lane at Manor/Springdale Road for intersection work — 1/14/19 to 1/16/19 Monday-Tuesday from 8 PM to 6 AM

LANE CLOSURE: US 183 northbound left general purpose lane will be closed from Manor/Springdale to US 290 for utility work — 1/15/19 to 1/17/19 Tuesday-Thursday from 9 AM to 3 PM

LANE CLOSURE: US 183 northbound will be reduced to one lane from Bolm Road to Harold Court for utility work — 1/17/19 to 1/18/19 Thursday from 8 PM to 6 AM

 

Long Term

Beginning as early as Friday, September 14, 2018, at 8 pm, the US 183 underpass at Bolm Road will close permanently to eastbound and westbound cross street traffic. — For eastbound movement, all traffic will detour to the southbound to northbound U-turn at Levander Loop. For westbound movement, all traffic will detour via a new temporary northbound to southbound U-turn located north of Bolm Road.

Loyola Lane Road closure for excavation — The Loyola Lane crossing at US 183 is closed through early 2019.

Smith Road and Thurgood Avenue for roadway base installation road closure — Continuously from Monday (4/16/2018) at 9 AM to Monday (4/1/2019) at 5 PM, Smith Road, west of US 183, and Thurgood Avenue will be closed at the US 183 southbound mainlanes. Follow signed detours.

Road closure on Montopolis Drive for roadway base installation — Montopolis Drive is closed at US 183 through early 2019. Follow signed detour from 6/15/2018 to 4/1/2019

Road closure on Eastgate for roadway base installation — Continuously between Thursday, June 1, 2018 at 6 AM until Monday, April 1, 2019 at 6 AM, Eastgate will be closed at the US 183 southbound mainlanes. Follow signed detour.

Road closure on Tracor Lane and Marcel Gres for utility work — Continuously through late December 2018, at 6 AM, Tracor Lane and Marcel Gres will be closed at US 183.

Lane closure on 51st Street on the west side of US 183 for roadway base installation — Continuously through December 2018, 51st Street on the west side of US 183 will be reduced to one lane in both directions between US 183 and Hutchinson Drive from 7/30/18 to 12/31/18.

Road closures of Central Avenue and Bluestein Drive for utility work — Central Avenue and Bluestein Drive are temporarily closed at their intersections with northbound US 183 for utility work and will remain closed through 2018. Traffic is being detoured via TechniCenter Drive and Semi-Conductor Drive from 7/30/18 to 12/31/18.

Ramp closure for SH 71 westbound exit ramp to US 183 southbound for bridge construction — Beginning as early as Sunday, August 26, at 6 pm and lasting approximately 10-12 months, the SH 71 westbound exit ramp to US 183 southbound will be closed. Detour by exiting for the U-turn at E. Riverside Drive and heading eastbound on SH 71 to the US 183 southbound exit from 8/26/18 to 8/12/19.

Road closure of 183 southbound to US 183 northbound U-Turn for bridge construction — Continuously through August 2019, the US 183 southbound to US 183 northbound U-Turn will be closed at Levander Loop. Follow the signed detour from 9/4/18 to 8/31/19.

Lane closure for Bluestein Drive west of US 183 for roadway base installation — Continuously between Sunday, September 16, at 10 PM until Monday, November 19, at 6 AM, Bluestein Drive west of US 183 will be closed at US 183. All traffic will detour via Technicenter Drive with Hudson Street as an alternate route from 9/16/18 to 11/19/18.

US 183 mainlanes has been shifted from 51st Street through MLK for intersection work — Traffic on the US 183 mainlanes has been shifted to the new general purpose lanes at 51st Street through MLK. All drivers must travel through the signalized intersection at MLK during this phase while crews construct the future bypass lanes that will allow drivers on the non-tolled general purpose lanes to bypass the traffic signal at MLK from 10/11/18 to 2/28/19.

ROAD PERMANENTLY CLOSED — The signalized crossing of US 183 at 51st Street is PERMANENTLY CLOSE and the traffic signal has been removed. Drivers must utilize the U-turns at MLK and Manor/Springdale Road as an alternative to cross over US 183 from 10/11/18 to 3/31/20.

ROAD PERMANENTLY CLOSED — The crossing of US 183 at Hudson Street will PERMANENTLY CLOSE. Drivers will instead use the U-turns at MLK and Bolm Road to reach the other side of US 183 from 10/12/18 to 10/1/20.

ROAD PERMANENTLY CLOSED — The crossing of US 183 at Central Ave will PERMANENTLY CLOSE. Drivers will instead use the U-turns at MLK and Bolm Road to reach the other side of US 183 10/12/18 to 10/1/20.

ROAD PERMANENTLY CLOSED — The US 183 underpass at Bolm Road will CLOSE PERMANENTLY to eastbound and westbound cross traffic and the traffic signal will be removed. Bolm Road eastbound traffic will detour via the south to north U-turn at Levander Loop to access US 183 northbound. Bolm Road westbound traffic will detour via a new temporary north to south U-turn located just north of Bolm Road to access US 183 Southbound 11/5/18 to 3/31/20.

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA) is an independent government agency created in 2002 to improve the transportation system in Williamson and Travis counties.

According to their website, their mission is “to implement innovative, multi-modal transportation solutions that reduce congestion and create transportation choices that enhance quality of life and economic vitality.”
The Mobility Authority was created and operates under the Texas Transportation Code Chapter 370 and is authorized under state law to implement a wide range of transportation systems including roadways, airports, seaports and transit services.
The Mobility Authority is authorized to issue revenue bonds to fund projects and can utilize user fees and/or taxes to fund operations and repay bonds.
