The week of 8/6 update of upcoming lane and road closures that may impact drivers along US 183 and adjacent roadways in east Austin.

Below is an overview of the 183 South project’s lane, road, and ramp closures.

Work continues along US 183, including bridge construction, roadway installation, sound wall work, utility work. All closures are weather permitting and subject to change.

• Need To Know Road Closures For US 183 South •

Short Term

• Monday-Tuesday (8/6-7) from 7am- 5pm, there will be a flagging operation to facilitate two-way traffic through one travel lane at Howard Road between Alleyton Drive and Shelton Road at the Knollwood on the Colorado neighborhood.

• Monday-Friday (8/6-10) from 9am-4pm, the far right southbound frontage road lane between US 290 and Manor Rd will be closed for sound wall construction.

• Wednesday-Thursday, (8/8-9) from 8pm-6am, and Friday (8/10) from 8pm-10am, The Northbound US 183 exit ramp at MLK Blvd. will be closed.  Traffic will detour via Tannehill Lane to TechniCenter Drive.

• Wednesday-Thursday (8/8-9) from 8pm-6am, and Friday 8/10 from 8pm-10am, Northbound Airport Blvd. will be closed and traffic will detour via Bolm Road. In addition, the southbound mainlanes of US 183 will be closed from Smith Rd. to Montopolis Drive and traffic will follow signed detour.

Long Term

• The cloverleaf ramp from SH 71 westbound to US 183 southbound will be CLOSED for 10-12 months starting as early as August 13, 2018.

Detour traffic will exit Riverside Drive and take the west to east U-turn to access US 183 southbound. This closure is necessary to facilitate the realignment, reconstruction, and widening of westbound SH 71.

The Mobility Authority was created and operates under the Texas Transportation Code Chapter 370 and is authorized under state law to implement a wide range of transportation systems including roadways, airports, seaports and transit services.
The Mobility Authority is authorized to issue revenue bonds to fund projects and can utilize user fees and/or taxes to fund operations and repay bonds.
