New Call For Art Focuses On Peace & Understanding

SAN MARCOS, TX — Given this time of great divisiveness in our country and the approaching busy holiday season for many diverse religions, the Price Center’s Art Committee is asking artists to help celebrate the spirit of Peace & Understanding by providing art that explores positive themes common to all humanity.

The Call for Art is open to all area artists – all ages, all skill levels. Artwork may be dropped off Oct. 11 & Oct 15 from 9 – 5 each day.

Any area Artist may submit up to two original works of art for this exhibit; 2-D works should be no larger than 24” x 36.”

There is space for a limited number of small to medium-sized 3-D pieces. This exhibition will officially open with an Artists’ Reception on Wed., Oct. 23, and the show will hang through early January.

Peace & Understanding will be the fourth juried show hosted by the Price Center’s new Arts Committee. The current Gallery show, “San Marcos: A River Runs Through It,” hangs throughout the facility until Oct. 10 and features nearly 100 works inspired by San Marcos and our river.

In addition, a separate pop-up art show titled “Art with HeArt,” hangs in the 1893 Room through Oct. 10 as well.

The unique, juried pop-up show, which debuted during the September San Mercado, exclusively features artists with some sort of cognitive impairment from traumatic brain injuries, mental health diagnoses, intellectual and developmental disabilities to autism and dementia.

The show includes a diverse display of watercolors, acrylics, oils, textile art, pen and inks, and photography. Most of the works in both shows are available for purchase.

The Price Center’s Rotating Art Shows are made possible in part through grant funds from the San Marcos Arts Commission.

Proceeds from application fees and a portion of any sales benefit the Price Center, which is operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Seniors Association (GSMASA), a 501 (c) 3 non-profit.

For more information about art shows at the Price Center, please call 512-392-2900, stop by the Center at 222 W. San Antonio St. Mon. – Fri., 9 to 5 PM, or visit price-center.org or Facebook @ Price Center & Garden.
