New Loop Aquarena / 82 Bridge To Open To Traffic After Weekend Construction Closure

The new bridge is part of a $20.7 million project to construct an overpass above the existing railroad tracks, with two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, six-foot sidewalks, and two frontage roads in each direction…

AUSTIN – Aquarena Springs Drive will be closed in San Marcos starting at 6 p.m. Sunday night, so the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) can complete final striping to open a new overpass bridge near Bobcat Stadium. The overpass is expected to be open to traffic for the first time at 6 a.m. Monday morning, April 23. The closures are weather permitting.

All lanes of Aquarena Springs Drive will be closed between Charles Austin Drive and Mill Street, including the Post Road intersection. Traffic will detour via Thorpe Lane and Charles Austin Drive, or via Eastwood Street, Mill Street and Uhland Road to Post Road.

Road signs have been placed to alert drivers of the closure. Motorists should allow extra time to travel through this area during the affected hours. TxDOT asks the public to be patient and remain aware when traveling through the work zone.

The new bridge is part of a $20.7 million project to construct an overpass above the existing railroad tracks, with two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, six-foot sidewalks, and two frontage roads in each direction.

The project is being constructed by Jordan Foster Construction, LLC and should be complete this summer.
