New Use For Old Keys

Recycle Your Keys to Help Feed the Hungry in Hays County

Hays County Food Bank needs your unwanted and unneeded keys to help feed the hungry in Hays County. Instead of letting those old keys get lost and lay useless in forgotten drawers, why not put them to a more charitable use?

Melissa Pursely of San Marcos discovered some unneeded keys in her own home, and she wanted to use the unneeded pieces of metal for good. She found a way through the Key for Hope Foundation. The Key for Hope Foundation is a nonprofit organization located in Massachusetts, and they help hunger fighting organizations across the nation. By recycling old and/or unused keys, we can help end hunger in Hays County. Help us unlock hunger, one key at a time.

You can bring your keys to the Hays County Food Bank office, located at 220 Herndon Street in San Marcos, Texas. The key drive lasts from July 16th to August 31st.  Melissa will be taking the keys to Green Guy Recycling in San Marcos in order to sell them for scrap metal. All proceeds will go to the Hays County Food Bank and help us in our mission of feeding the hungry in Hays County. For more information, please visitwww.keyforhope.org.

You can help eliminate hunger in Hays County by making a donation to support the Hays County Food Bank. Your gift enables the Food Bank to provide nutritious food to our community. Visit haysfoodbank.org or call (512)392-8300 to make a donation. Go to www.haysfoodbank.org for details about public distributions, volunteer opportunities, the Get FED, HOPE and YEAH programs, and upcoming events.

The Hays County Food Bank, along with more than 40 partner agencies, distributed 528,964 pounds of food to more than 18,000 food insecure residents, including senior citizens and many others facing economic challenges, in 2014.  “Food security” refers to the availability of food and one’s access to it.  The Food Bank is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the public to perform its mission.  For more information, please visit haysfoodbank.org or visit us on Facebook or Twitter at @HaysFoodBank
