San Marcos, TX –The LifeLong Learning Organization of San Marcos (LLL) and Price Center are teaming up again to present several new workshops beginning next month.
Ceramics, Origami, a history of writing through the ages, and a look at JS Bach’s genius will be the focus of the latest workshops beginning next week. All workshops require advance registration and payment of a small fee.
History of Ceramics presented by Suzanne Polk-Shields will address selected aspects of the history of ceramics in the United States using slide-supported lectures and open discussion. The class will take place on Mondays: Jan. 7, 14, 21 & 28 from 2:00 to 3:15 p.m. A $20.00 fee is required.
Origami presented by Michael Hannon will cover both basic paper folding and the making of more complex models, as well as discussion of the role of origami in traditional Japanese culture, and its relations to Chinese and Korean paper traditions. The class will take place Tuesdays: Jan. 8, 15, 22, 29 and Feb. 5 & 12 from 10 a.m. – Noon. A $45 fee is required.
A World History of Writing . . . with Emphasis on Aesthetics & Design also presented by Hannon will be largely a discussion of all of the world’s original writing system traditions, Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Phoenician, Indian, Chinese, and Mayan, (as well as some mention of the Andean and Polynesian systems which may have been full writing systems).
The class will meet Wednesday: Jan. 9, 16, 23, 30 and Feb. 6 & 13 from 2:00 to 3:15 p.m. A $25.00 fee is required.
The Genius of J. S. Bach presented by John Schmidt, Professor of Music, teaches music theory, music history, and organ at Texas State, will explore reasons why Johann Sebastian Bach was one of the greatest master composers in the history of Western music.
A number of attractive works will be studied through recordings and live performances. The class will meet Fridays: Jan. 11, 18, 25 and Feb 1, 8, & 22 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. A $25.00 fee is required.
