Next Segment Of The SH 130 Widening Project On The Way

SH 130 is often used as a bypass to I-35 and has seen considerable traffic growth during peak periods. The 11.5-mile project will increase mobility and safety along the corridor.

AUSTIN – Construction will begin early next year on the next leg of the SH 130 widening project in Travis County. The project will add a third lane in both directions, from US 290 East to SH 71.

SH 130 is often used as a bypass to I-35 and has seen considerable traffic growth during peak periods. The 11.5-mile project will increase mobility and safety along the corridor. OHL USA, Inc. won the contract with a bid of $56.1 million. The project is expected to break ground in early 2019. It should take two years to complete, weather permitting.

A groundbreaking was held in early October for the first phase of the SH 130 widening project, from SH 45 to US 290. This nine-mile project also widens mainlanes and bridges, adding a third travel lane in each direction. The cost of construction for this segment is $36.7 million.

During its October meeting, the Texas Transportation Commission also approved a long-term temporary speed reduction on RM 1431, covering a quarter mile near Lake Crest Drive in Jonestown. An upcoming construction project will add a center-turn lane and shoulders to RM 1431. The speed limit will be reduced from 50 mph to 45 mph to improve safety within the project limits during construction.
