NOAA Issues Flash Flood Watch For Hays County & South Central Texas

UPDATED: A flash flood warning is in effect for Eastern Hays County until 9:30 p.m, December 7.

The National Weather Service has issued (Friday, 3:34 AM) a Flash Flood Watch and warns of local heavy rainfall possible this Friday afternoon into Saturday morning.

A cold front is slowly moving across the Interstate 35 corridor this morning and potent upper-level system moving across the area later this evening are forecast to produce locally heavy rainfall this afternoon and evening and continuing through Saturday morning.

Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches expected along and west of Highway 83, 2 to 4 inches expected east of Highway 83 and along and west of Interstate 35/Interstate 37 including both San Antonio and Austin metro areas and 4 to 6 inches expected southeast of I-35 and east of I-37.


FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON CST TODAY THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING

From noon today, Friday, December 7, through Saturday morning, December 8.

Rainfall amounts of 2 to 6 inches are expected to fall across the watch area including the San Antonio and Austin metropolitan areas.

This episode of moderate to heavy rainfall could result in isolated flash flooding along area roadways, underpasses and low lying areas as well as small creeks and tributaries.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
