Office Closures and Additional Information From GBRA

Federal Government Mobilized to Support Federal, State, Local and Tribal Partners As Hurricane Harvey Approaches the Gulf Coast

Given the forecasted weather conditions, significant rainfall and flooding may occur throughout the Guadalupe River Basin, GBRA has closed several office locations.

GBRA operations within Calhoun, Refugio, Goliad, and Victoria counties are located in the National Weather Service’s (NWS) immediate warning area.

GBRA’s office at Port Lavaca in Calhoun County has closed as staff prepared for this storm. Coleto Creek Park near Victoria also closed. Both offices will reopen after storm damages have been assessed and recovery efforts have been completed to make operations safe for both employees and customers.

GBRA is the owner and operator of Lake Dunlap, Lake McQueeney, Lake Placid, Lake Nolte, Lake Gonzales (H-4), and Lake Wood (H-5) located in Comal, Guadalupe, and Gonzales counties, Texas. These lakes are below Canyon Lake, which is located in Comal County. Flood waters will be passed through ALL of the hydro lake system. 

Canyon Lake is a joint project of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) as the local sponsor.

Canyon’s primary purposes are for flood control by the USACE and water supply by GBRA. When the lake is at its normal elevation of 909 mean sea level (msl) or below, typically GBRA handles the operations, but when it is above 909 msl, the operations are handled by the USACE. Canyon’s level at the time of this message is 906.71 msl.
