San Marcos Public Library Announces Library Book Club September Selection, Chess Night And More

Every week, the library releases a reminder of the upcoming events residents can look forward to in the upcoming week.

Every week, the San Marcos Public Library releases a reminder of the upcoming events residents can look forward to in the upcoming week.

A variety of free programs are available to the community on a year-round basis; there are also seasonal programs, such as, the after school programs.

Next week, members of the library book club will be meeting to discuss August’s book selection. On Wednesday, members will also pick up a copy of September’s book selection.

On Thursday, residents interested in becoming deputy voter registrars will be able to take the test necessary for receiving their certificate of appointment and supply packet. Participants are required to register through the library in person or over the phone.

Chess night returns Thursday at 6:30 PM; instruction, chess sets and clocks will be able through the library.

And finally, Yarn in the Community will hold expanded events in September.

Library Book Club

Sept. 5 and every first Wednesday of the month

1 – 3 p.m.

This month’s book selection is Behind the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo. New members are welcome.

Become a Deputy Voter Registrar

Thursday, Sept. 6

12 – 1 p.m.

Voting is the cornerstone of a democracy, and you can help in this vital process. Bring a brown bag lunch to the library and become a deputized voter registrar on your lunch break.

Staff from the Hays County Elections Office will be on site to administer the test and issue the certificate of appointment and supply packet. Registration required in person at the library or by calling the library at 512.393.8200.

Chess Night

Thursday, Sept. 6

6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

All ages and skill levels are welcome. The library provides chess sets, clocks, and basic instruction.

Yarn in the Community – Expanded Sessions

Friday, Sept. 7 and every first Friday of the month

10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Wednesdays, September 12 & 26 and every second and fourth Wednesdays 6 – 7:30 p.m.

Fiber folks can enjoy sewing, knitting, or crocheting in good company. Bring your own materials and a project for this free event.
