Staff Reports
HAYS COUNTY, TEXAS – In Hays County there are over 72,000 and 8 million Texans who haven’t yet received their initial vaccine dose.
In Hays County, 168,156 and over 78.10% of eligible people, and in Texas, over 77.38% or 20,867,060 people 5 years and older have received their initial dose of vaccine.
In addition, over 66.91% or 144,061 of Hays County 5 years and over, are fully vaccinated, and Texans in the same age groups, over 65.10% or 17,556,623 of Texans, are fully vaccinated.
Furthermore, in Hays County 58,125 and in Texas 6,711,877 have received a third dose (booster shot).
As vaccine distribution increases, more of the local Hays County and Texas population has received at least their first dose. Because of this, active case numbers and monthly COVID-19 related fatalities have decreased.
The COVID-19 vaccine teaches our immune system how to recognize and fight the virus that causes COVID-19. It typically takes two weeks after vaccination for the body to build protection (immunity) against the virus that causes COVID-19.
After you have been fully vaccinated, you may be able to start doing some things you had stopped doing because of the pandemic.
Many doctors’ offices, retail pharmacies, hospitals, and clinics offer COVID-19 vaccinations. The federal government is providing the vaccine free of charge to all people living in the United States, regardless of their immigration or health insurance status.
NOTE: As of 11/4/2021, children 5-11 are included in the vaccination numbers and percentages and the eligible population denominator is now all Texans 5 years of age and older. This has changed the percentages.
