According to the City of Buda, late Saturday night the Buda Fire Department (BFD) received a 911 Dispatch call for the area of 100 Main Street. Reports of heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof of commercial buildings in downtown Buda.
BFD arrived on the scene within three minutes at 11:30 PM to find flames coming from the roof of 108 Main Street. When crews arrived on the scene crews confirmed heavy fire coming from the roof at the rear of the structure, also known as Helen’s Casa Alde Mexican Food restaurant.
BFD requested assistance from Kyle FD and the fire was finally contained and under control by 12:44 AM.
Adjacent businesses of Farmers Insurance, Mikes Barber Shop, and Brooklyn’s restaurant were checked for fire extension by BFD, with no additional structures were affected. However, mild smoke damage was reported to adjoining buildings and businesses.
Buda Fire remained on scene for extensive overhaul operations as the fire burnt through the pier and beam floor. Portions of the wood floor had to be removed to extinguish Fire that had spread beneath the wooden floor joist.
Helens Casa Alde is to be considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
