PEC Awards $25,000 In Community Grants

JOHNSON CITY, Texas — Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) is proud to award $25,000 in community grants to five deserving local nonprofits through its Power of Change program.

Each spring and fall, PEC awards grants of up to $5,000 to eligible nonprofit organizations for qualifying projects in the cooperative’s service territory and surrounding communities.

Since launching its grants program just four years ago, PEC has provided more than $215,000 in funding to more than 50 organizations.

These grants are made possible through the generosity of PEC members enrolled in the cooperative’s Power of Change program, where members opt to round up their electric bills to the nearest dollar for charity.

Due to COVID-19, PEC was unable to hold its traditional grants reception, but recipients quickly received their funds to help continue their important work.

“There are countless nonprofits doing such impactful work in our communities,” PEC Community Relations Coordinator Caroline Tinsley Porter said. “We’re thrilled to be able to give back to these groups who work so hard to make a difference,” she said. “We’re especially grateful to our members who donate to PEC’s Power of Change program to make these grants possible.”

Samaritan Health Ministries

Provides high quality, affordable health and wellness services that support healthy living among the uninsured families in Williamson and Travis counties.

A PEC grant will help fund a complete pharmacy renovation and expansion.

Friends of the Bulverde Area Rural Library District

Supports the Mammen Family Public Library in its mission to provide an environment that inspires a lifelong love of learning through educational and cultural opportunities.

With their PEC grant, the nonprofit will purchase a digital library platform to meet an increased demand for these materials.

The technology will help the library provide e-books, audiobooks, language learning programs, videos, and talking picture books for early readers.

Camp Phoenix

Inspires hope, health, and healing by providing the highest level of mental health care to every child and family, through innovative trauma-informed therapy and education. Grant funds will provide energy-efficient windows for the nonprofit’s new center.

Patriots Hall of Dripping Springs

Serves as a permanent retreat and resource for veterans of all ages and types of military service to connect and find support.

A PEC grant will help fund ADA compliant ramps, walkways, lighting, and signage to make the nonprofit’s two meeting halls safe for visitors and volunteers.

Science Mill

Works to inspire students, giving them the confidence, tools, and support needed to reach their full potential as skilled members of the 21st century STEM workforce.

A PEC grant will help provide new technology and equipment to increase the museum’s capacity for virtual STEM programs that students, families, and educators can access remotely.
