PEC Employees Donate More Than 6,000 School Supplies To Area Schools

KYLE, Texas – Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) employees teamed up to provide a bright start to the school year for area teachers and students.

Across its offices, PEC employees donated more than 6,000 school supplies to benefit school districts across the cooperative’s service territory. Supplies raised in each PEC office were donated locally in the area served. On Aug. 12, PEC’s Kyle office donated supplies to Hays CISD.

“It’s a busy time for our members and families, and school supply costs add up quickly,” said Caroline Tinsley Porter, PEC’s community relations coordinator. “We understand the importance of giving back at this time, and we’re happy to band together to help our local school districts any way we can.”

According to the National Retail Federation, the average household with children in elementary school through high school will spend more than $690 on back-to-school items. The idea for a school supply drive first came about last year when PEC employees in Kyle raised supplies for Hays CISD. This year was the first PEC employee-wide school supply drive, and thanks to its success, PEC plans to continue the event.

“We are always impressed by the generosity of our employees, and we’re proud to serve our membership in more ways than one,” Porter said. “We strive to be the heart of our communities — invested in future generations, including our youngest members.”
