Petition forms and information are available online at pec.coop/nominations. Members may also call 888-554-4732 or go to any PEC office to request materials. The petition materials include qualifications, instructions, an application, maps showing PEC board districts and forms for submitting background information and collecting member signatures.
Members seeking nomination for PEC director positions are required by cooperative bylaws to do so through a petition process. Verifiable signatures from 50 members who live within the nominee’s board district or have designated a voting residence within that district are required.
Members seeking nomination may obtain a list of members within each board district by emailing openrecords@peci.com; members may also call the PEC Election Team at 800-868-4791, ext. 4916, for more information.
Completed petition materials must be received at PEC headquarters by the Board Recording Secretary no later than March 30 at 5 p.m.
Director nominees must maintain a primary residence and receive continuous electric service for at least one year in the PEC board district in which they seek election.
PEC’s Board District 1 mostly includes parts of Bell, Burnet, Lampasas, Travis and Williamson counties; District 6 mostly includes parts of Blanco, Comal, Edwards, Hays, Kerr, Kinney and Real counties; and District 7 includes parts of Caldwell, Hays and Travis counties.
Running for a seat on the board and voting in PEC elections is a distinctive benefit of being a cooperative member. Directors are democratically elected by the PEC membership and are compensated for their service. The cooperative has one director from each of its seven board districts. Directors serve three-year terms.
A qualifications review committee composed of members will verify nominees’ qualifications. After petition signatures and nominees’ qualifications are verified, PEC plans to announce the director candidates April 16.
Members from Districts 1, 6 and 7 will be able to vote by mail or online between May 24 and June 15, or in person at the cooperative’s June 23 Annual Meeting in Spring Branch. Members can also vote in each District office on a PEC provided device. Election results will be announced near the conclusion of the annual meeting.
Members are encouraged to visit pec.coop/election to learn more about the 2018 election.
