Pedernales Electric Cooperative Opens Applications For “Power Of Change” Community Grants Program

On Feb. 1, Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) announced the company is accepting applications for its Community Grants program until April 1 at 5 PM.

The program awards grants up to $5,000 to eligible nonprofit organizations for qualified projects located within the PEC service area or in a community surrounded by the PEC service area. Grant funds can be used for qualified projects that include capital improvements, technology, and equipment related to energy efficiency.

Last winter, PEC awarded more than $24,000 in grants to support more than 8 nonprofit organizations. Recent recipients include the Hays County Food Bank, Dog Alliance, Canyon Lake Community Resource and Recreation Center, Driftwood, Henly, and North Hays County Volunteer Fire Departments and several others.

“We have tremendous love for our community and are proud to show our support,” Community Relations Coordinator Caroline Tinsley Porter said. “Twice a year these grants provide a small way for us to give back to those we care so much about.”

PEC Community Grants are made possible, in part, by cooperative members’ participation in PEC’s Power of Change program. Participants’ electric bills are rounded up to the nearest dollar, and the combined funds are used to supplement PEC Community Grants and education contributions.

Members interested in supporting local nonprofits can enroll in Power of Change at any time through SmartHub, by phone, on their payment slip, or by visiting a PEC district office. Complete details are available at pec.coop/power-of-change.

Community Grants applications will be accepted by email or mail until April 1 at 5 p.m. Full eligibility requirements and submission guidelines are available online at pec.coop/community-grants.
