Plum Creek Watershed Partnership Announces Free Homeowner Septic System Workshops for July and August

LOCKHART — The Plum Creek Watershed Partnership, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, and Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board will present a series of septic system workshops for homeowners, to take place in July and August 2017.

• Monday, July 17, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, 

Kyle Public Library – 550 Scott St., Kyle, TX

• Tuesday, July 18, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 

Zedler Mill – 1170 S. Laurel Ave., Luling, TX

• Tuesday, August 8, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, 

Lockhart State Park – 2012 State Park Rd., Lockhart, TX

*6-hour classes will provide Hays County homeowners with the certification to maintain their own aerobic system

“The two-hour course in Luling will provide attendees with a basic understanding of the operational and maintenance activities of conventional and aerobic septic systems,” said Nick Dornak, Plum Creek Watershed Coordinator. “The two 6-hour courses will go much more in-depth, particularly with regard to aerobic systems. We are pleased to announce that Hays County homeowners who complete either of the extended courses in Kyle or Lockhart will leave with certification to maintain their own aerobic systems.”

Dornak said the topics covered will include treatment processes, health and safety considerations, an overview of how to inspect and maintain the system, and instruction on how activities in the home can impact the system.

“The course provides answers to some of the most frequently asked questions, including when to pump out a tank and what can and cannot go down the drain,” he said.
