Police Warrant: “Crime Scene In Samantha Dean Killing Might Have Been Staged”

Currently, as Kyle, Bastrop, and Austin law enforcement is looking for the person responsible for Samantha Dean’s killer, the investigation is increasing as a search warrant revealed that the crime scene may have been staged.The search warrant gave law enforcement the ability to search Ms. Dean’s Austin home, and outlines some indicators that left authorities uncertain about where this murder might have taken place.

When Ms. Dean was found, shot to death, next to her car in Bastrop County on Feb 4, she had a plastic bag around her head, her body had appeared to have been moved or manipulated, and the backseat of her Dodge Charger had been removed according to the warrant.

The warrant stated, “It is currently believed that there was an attempt to modify or stage the crime scene.”

When investigators executed the search in Ms. Dean’s home, they expected to find blood and “any other residue constituting evidence of bleeding injuries or other violent trauma,” according to the warrant.

According to court records, investigators collected numerous fingerprints and belongings that were found, including bed sheets, furniture, and journals, however court records show that no guns were found with Dean or recovered from her home.

According to the autopsy report, Ms. Dean, a 29-year-old victims’ counselor with the Kyle Police Department, had been shot three times in the head.

According to the police report and warrant, the Bastrop County sheriff’s deputy discovered Ms. Dean about 2 a.m. during a routine check of the parking lot of a vacant shopping center in Cedar Creek.

The Bastrop deputy spotted a car parked near the dumpsters with the passenger door ajar, and Ms. Dean was found unresponsive with a large pool of blood under her head, the warrant states.

According to the Austin American-Statesman, “An Austin law enforcement officer with ties to Ms. Dean, who had been seven months pregnant when she was shot, has been placed on paid leave as authorities investigate whether he was the father of the child she was carrying, according to multiple people familiar with the case.”

Law enforcement officials in Bastrop, Hays and Travis counties who are connected to the case also stated that the Austin officer is one of multiple people, including several in law enforcement agencies across several counties, being questioned in Dean’s death.

The officials wouldn’t identify the officer or provide details about his relationship with Ms. Dean. They also wouldn’t say why the officer was placed on leave, a decision that is made by Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo, according to the American-Statesman article.
