Enjoy Summerfest Spectacular in the Park!
As San Marcos residents prepare for the annual public Summerfest fireworks show, they are reminded that private fireworks are prohibited in and around San Marcos.
The City Fire Code prohibits “the sale, possession, storage, discharge or offer for sale of fireworks” in the city limits or within 5,000 feet of the city limits.
The penalty for violating the ordinance, part of the fire safety code, includes fines of up to $2,000.
City Marshal Ken Bell and the San Marcos Police Department will be on the lookout for violations over the holiday and will enforce the code. To report illegal fireworks in San Marcos, call the police non-emergency number at 512.753.2108.
“Marshals will be assisting with extra patrols focusing on complaints,” Bell said. “Every year, we get unnecessary burn injuries and fires due to these seemingly innocent noise makers. A professional display will be made available to everyone near the San Marcos Plaza Park.”
The 36th annual SummerFest Celebration begins at 6 p.m. Monday, July 4, at San Marcos Plaza Park. This kid-friendly, free event will feature live music, food booths, children’s costume competition and parade.
