REMINDER: TUESDAY DEC. 2ND – Courthouse Lighting And Brown Santa Fun Set To Start

Posted by Staff | @CorridorNews

The historic Hays County Courthouse will don its holiday décor and light up the Courthouse Square at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2. Residents are invited to join the ceremony, which will include refreshments courtesy of HEB, an opportunity for the youngsters to tell Santa their Christmas wishes and jolly singing from the Scheib Christmas Carolers. Santa will be available from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. in the Courthouse rotunda. The Courthouse is located at 111 E. San Antonio St., San Marcos.

Those wishing to donate an unwrapped toy or make a donation by check or cash will get a special thank-you from Brown Santa, a program of the Hays County Sheriff’s Office that annually brings food and presents to those who otherwise would not have a very happy holiday. Brown Santa is also accepting donations by mail and in person at various fundraisers around the county.

Look for the Brown Santa booth to get your fill of bratwurst and Frito pie at the San Marcos Sights & Sounds of Christmas festival December 3-6. And, if that special boss, friend or co-worker needs to be arrested for a real or imagined transgression, Brown Santa will be hosting its annual Holiday Lockup December 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. While those arrested will need to pay between $100 and $200 to “bond out,” they will be served a free lunch from an area restaurant while in lockup at the Hays County Government Center, 712 S. Stagecoach Trail. Anyone else who is hungry can purchase a plate for $7, with all proceeds going to Brown Santa.

Brown Santa is looking for volunteers to help with the Sights & Sounds food booth at San Marcos Plaza Park and with the wrapping and delivering of gifts for those in need. For more information on how to donate your time or to have that special someone arrested, call Hays County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Dennis Gutierrez at 512-393-7877.
