Rep. Zwiener Files Over 50 Bills In 86th Legislative Session For Texas Groundwater, Conservation And More

Former Representative Jason Isaac announced his bid for congress in November 2017 giving way for someone to succeed him as Representative of House District 45. Hays County voters elected Rep. Erin Zwiener (D) as the new representative for HD 45 with 42,347 votes.

During her campaign, Zwiener cited education, conservation and healthcare to be among her priorities. Since taking office, Rep. Zwiener has filed and authored 54 bills and joint authored 8 other bills related to various issues including groundwater, conservation, education, public safety and more.

Three of the bills focus on eminent domain for private companies. Current law has granted private oil and gas companies hefty eminent domain powers that leave landowners feeling helpless, with few tools for recourse.

“These pipelines bring up property rights, economic, environmental, and public safety concerns,” said Rep. Zwiener. “That is why our office is tackling this issue from all angles to see how we can improve this broken process. When utility providers use eminent domain, there is a transparent process with public accountability. Right now, pipeline companies are able to snatch up folks’ land, put a potentially dangerous pipeline through it, and answer to no one. That’s flat out not right.”

Below is a list of all 62 authored and joint authored bills filed by Zwiener since the start of the 86th Legislative Session.
