Rep. Zwiener To Chair Environmental Committee Within House Democratic Caucus

Kyle, TX — On Friday, the House Democratic Caucus (HDC) announced that Representative Zwiener will chair the HDC Committee on Clean Air, Clean Water, and Climate Change.

The formation of this committee marks HDC’s commitment to prioritize environmental issues for the next legislative session and their confidence in Rep. Zwiener’s leadership on the environment.

“I want my daughter to grow up enjoying the same beautiful Texas that I explored as a kid,” said Rep. Zwiener “Unfortunately, there are more threats now to our air, our water, and our future than ever. Democrats are ready to tackle those challenges head-on, and I’m confident that we can build real solutions to tackle climate change and protect the environment for all Texas kids.”

Rep. Zwiener is the only member of the Texas House with a professional background in conservation, and she established herself as a voice for clean air, clean water, and sensible environmental protections during the 2019 legislative session.

She was recently appointed by the Speaker of the Texas House to the Aggregate Production Operations Interim Study Committee, which will address concerns surrounding rock quarries, concrete batch plants, and hot-mix asphalt plants.

“Our caucus will be prepared to govern if we have the majority in 2021,” said House Democratic Caucus Chair Chris Turner (D-Arlington). “Our top priorities for the future of Texas must be investing in an educated and healthy workforce, and stopping the growing consequences of climate change.”

The next legislative session will convene in January 2021.
