Restaurants And Businesses Re-Populate Springtown Mall

In August 2016, the San Marcos Planning and Zoning Commission changed Springtown Mall from a General Retail zone to a vertical mixed-use.

Springtown Mall has been primarily vacant since JCPenney, Best Buy, Target and Bealls left nearly ten years ago.

After the chains departures, other businesses relocated to newer shopping centers. For years, the 230,000-square foot shopping center had only ten percent residency: Bath & Body Works, GNC, Twin Liquors and WellMed.

Since the property was purchased in 2014 by Endeavor Real Estate Company, Springtown has been gradually growing the 6.57-acre lot.

In August 2016, the San Marcos Planning and Zoning Commission approved a rezoning request by the company; Springtown Mall was made a mixed-use property to allow for a 184 unit-student housing development, the Lyndon to encompass the top three floors of the property.

The Spot opened in October of 2016; the entertainment venue includes a lounge, a restaurant and bar, a movie theater and a bowling alley. In September 2016, Chuy’s joined the center’s population. The center is also home to a Gold’s Gym.

Endeavor’s Springtown tenants include;
The Spot, Great Clips, Twin Liquors, Golds Gym, Summer Moon Coffee Bar, H&R Block, McAlister’s Deli, Chuy’s, America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses, Total Nutrition, Blaze Pizza and Kobe Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar will be relocating into the old Applebee’s restaurant.

Endeavor’s other San Marcos commercial properties

  • University Square: Located at N. Guadalupe St at University Dr. across from the old post office, which is now where Torchy’s Tacos is located.
  • 1346 Thorpe Lane, small commercial development

In August 2017, Endeavor Principals, Nelson Crowe and Buck Cody, reported Springtown Mall’s retail space was 100 percent leased.

The project’s doors are expected to be fully open in 2019.
