Rio Claro Studio, Artist Karen Cross’ Trunk Show

Rio Claro Studio, the intimate fine art gallery/concept space in downtown San Marcos TX, will show artist Karen Cross’ works on/of paper and textiles on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 12-6 pm in the fine art gallery located off Courthouse Square in San Marcos TX. Cross will be showing a collection of objects ranging from paper dresses to assemblage, hand painted tea towels, pouches and pillows, textile bracelets and upholstered chairs.

Karen Cross will fill the gallery and the foyer with pieces that show her love for sewing and textiles; also for paint, textures and words. Her work lives in two words – a pragmatic orderly world where patterns are followed; where seams, stitches and material add up to finished pieces to be worn or displayed. Cross then splashes her work with color, shapes, words and lines that speak more to abstract painting traditions and automatic writing.

Cross has said about her work, “I have always sewn and used the sewing machine in unconventional ways. It’s fun to break the rules of sewing when making paper clothes.” In this work, both the exactness of three-dimensional building and the looseness of her materials and mark-making live together in perfect harmony.

During the Wine + Art Walk weekend, Rio Claro Studio will feature local artist Karen Cross along with the work of their gallery artists; ranging from fine art to jewelry to limited editions. On Friday night from 5:30-8:30 during the Wine + Art Walk, Karen Cross will be Rio Claro Studio’s featured artist during which some of her works will be shown. Cross’s trunk show will kickoff at noon on Saturday at Rio Claro Studio right after the gallery’s MugUp event.
