Rob Dussler To Develop Meadows Center’s Education Research Program

Dussler will also focus on promoting the protection of the San Marcos Springs as well as fostering an appreciation and stewardship of its natural and cultural resources.

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS –The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment at Texas State University has named Rob Dussler assistant director of Spring Lake. Dussler will develop an outdoor education research program at The Meadows Center, and oversee the Spring Lake environmental education programs and outdoor recreation activities.

“Rob will play a vital role in enabling The Meadows Center to capitalize on our recent accomplishments and realize the full potential of education and research activities at Spring Lake as set forth by our 2017-2023 Strategic Plan,” Executive Director Andrew Sansom said. “It is a thrilling time to have Rob join The Meadows Center’s leadership team during our 15^th anniversary.”

In this position, Dussler will also focus on promoting the protection of the San Marcos Springs as well as fostering an appreciation and stewardship of its natural and cultural resources.

“This region is a very personal place to me. I grew up coming to the Texas Hill Country going to camp and spending my days fishing and swimming in the rivers. These experiences were very formative for me,” Dussler said. “It is a great joy to find my personal and professional interests represented here in this most special place.”

Dussler comes to The Meadows Center with over 25 years of experience in outdoor education. Most recently, he worked at Young Harris College as the Chair of the Outdoor Leadership Department and the Director of the Outdoor Leadership Center. There, he founded the outdoor recreation program and subsequently developed the Bachelor of Science Degree in Outdoor Leadership as the program grew in popularity.  

 “The position at The Meadows Center represents many possibilities for me to engage deeply with my connection and interest in water, recreation and education,” Dussler said. “I’m looking forward to contributing my experience and perspective and being a dedicated steward of this resource.”

He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in outdoor education administration, and a doctorate in recreation and leisure studies.

The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment was named following a generous gift from The Meadows Foundation in August 2012. The Meadows Center is dedicated to environmental research, stewardship, education and service, and is led by Executive Director Andrew Sansom, Ph.D.
