Runners Invited To ‘GEAR UP’
For 10-Mile Run Benefiting Local Scholarships
For the third consecutive year, Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) is teaming up with the San Marcos Manufacturer’s Association (SMMA) to host the SMMA Gear Up 10-Mile Run on Sunday, Feb. 8 at 7 a.m. The event, which will take place at the Tanger Outlet Center in San Marcos, will benefit local scholarships for students with ambitions to pursue higher education at a number of area educational institutions.
“Our first two Gear Up runs have become the most successful fund raising events in the 33-year history of SMMA, raising nearly 20,000 for the cause,” said Race Director Rick Gonzales.
According to Gonzales, the event will be unique for runners because it takes place on a Hill Country race course, designed by Dr. Maurice Johnson, at Tanger Outlet Center, one of the largest outlet malls in Central Texas. Dr. Johnson, better known by locals as “Moe,” is a professor at Texas State University – San Marcos. He has been heavily involved in the San Marcos runner’s community, both as a runner and race organizer.
Participants can pre-register for the Gear Up 10-Mile Run at http://bit.ly/GearUp2015. Pre-registration is $40 through Feb. 4. Late registration is $50, which will be collected at the event. Only cash and checks will be accepted for late registration. Get in gear at www.facebook.com/smmagearup10milerun.
